AI will help beat the breast cancer. Get to know the AILIS – Breast Cancer Prediction Technology

We  have created a revolutionary system that has a chance to save millions of women around the word. We called him: AILIS – say the creators of the system. It is a modern, non-contact and completely safe method of detecting breast cancer in women. It will be presented for the first time at the ARAB HEALTH 2024 in Dubai.

According to the World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women worldwide[1] and the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women[2]. Breast cancer detection in mammography is the most challenging in women with dense breasts.

AILIS is the answer to the needs and challenges in healthcare. The system changes the way of thinking about breast cancer, goes beyond modern medicine, and is a response to emerging global problems. (watch this film)

THE UAE support innovation, state-of-the art technologies, medical tourism. This is the best place to show the world and implement our this system for the first time.

AILIS will revolutionize breast cancer early detection – The Emirates will be the first in the world to have this system!

What is AILIS?

AILIS is the world’s first integrated breast health monitoring system.

It  combines:

  • the cutting-edge technology
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Parametric Dynamic Imaging
  • Deep Neural Networks

The system performs a non-contact and non-invasive examination of the breast (without harmful radiation) in just 4 minutes. The result is available in the application after 10 minutes. On the other hand, standard tests take 15-30 minutes, and the diagnostics procedure in some countries takes even several months.

The AILIS system is almost maintenance-free and equipped with virtual assistant. If necesairy it also connects with the radiologist (digitally). The innovations used in this system cannot be compared to any existing examination methods.

Who invented it and why?

It was started by a Pole Michał Matuszewski from AILIS, who launched the project 7 years ago. He built a team of eminent scientists from leading Polish universities. Among them there are oncologists, physicists, biomedical engineers and developers.

By combining medical, analytical, programming, and business knowledge with data engineering, they have developed a unique system on a global scale. The project is already after preclinical trials that showed a very high sensitivity of the system. –  We want to give women an innovative system for breast health control, which will encourage them to undergo regular examinations. Furthermore, it will allow them to observe and compare the results over time and will alert them in case of detecting anomalies and the need to undergo diagnostics testsMichał Matuszewski, CEO says.

How does it work?

The system is based on Parametric Dynamic Imaging (PDI), which is functional imaging, i.e., it shows the functioning of the examined tissue.

– The examination using this method consists of recording the course of transient energy exchange processes in the breast tissue. Nearly 250 measurements are made during the four-minute process, which are then processed for parameterization and analysis using Artificial Intelligence. If an area of the body, in this case, the breast, shows abnormalities (e.g., increased levels of metabolism and blood perfusion) it has a potentially much higher risk of developing cancer
 – explains Mateusz Moderhak, Ph.D., co-creator of the AILIS system and Machine Learning Engineer.

The AILIS device is one of many elements of the entire system, and the uniqueness of our research method lies in the invention of research procedures, information processing and diagnostic algorithms, which would not function without the data collected during the research work. Furthermore, the applied method uses the most dynamically developing techniques of Artificial Intelligence based on Deep Neural Networks (DNN).

We have been using Artificial Intelligence methods to study high-energy experiments conducted at the CERN Research Center in Geneva for many years. Applying these tools to the diagnostic process is yet another great example that fundamental research still has a tremendous practical impact on our everyday life, as was the case nearly 130 years ago with the discovery of X-rays – claims Professor Mariusz Witek, AI Specialist at AILIS.

How AILIS cares about women?

AILIS is the answer to many problems of the health service around the world.

After implementing AILIS:

  • It will revolutionize the detection and treatment of this disease in different cultures and social environments – not only in countries taking active preventive and therapeutic measures against breast cancer but also for those in countries where religious or socio-cultural beliefs can influence low rate of breast cancer screenings.
  • It is able to overcome barriers such as fear of pain during the examination or apprehension of being touched by medical professionals.
  • It will fill the gap of the medical system – there wasn’t before no effective method for examination of dense breasts.
  • It will solve global problems in health careread more and watch the film
  • It will be complemented by an application supporting monthly breast selfIe examination, guiding step-by-step on how to perform it correctly.
  • It will allow to make personalized risk model by examining breast density, gathering additional patient data. – During subsequent visits it will compare the results from previous and current examinations, draw conclusions, and provide appropriate recommendations, such as to visit a doctor for enhanced diagnostics – explains Kamil Drucis, MD, Ph.D., AILIS Medical consultant in oncology.
  • Thanks to the high level of automation of the procedures, standardization, and the creation of appropriate examination environments, AILIS will work outside the healthcare system (e.g.shopping centre) with simultaneous minimization of the number of medical professionals needed to operate it.
  • The created system will allow for a radical cost reduction. For instance, in mammography prices differ in many countries, but still, the lowest is several times higher than the AILIS examination.

When AILIS will be ready for implementation?

Clinical trials, scheduled for the first quarter of 2023, will finally confirm the system’s sensitivity, followed by the certification process. The world premiere is planned for February 2024 during the international medical fair in Dubai.

The project received  EUR1.4 million in research and development funding from the European Union under the European Development Fund. Further talks are underway regarding the next round of financing the project via private investors so that the system can be quickly implemented worldwide.
